The VWs love being part of your wedding, and they adore being a central part of your photographs…..and they always dress to impress, looking their best.

So occasionally we have a bride who says it doesn’t matter what colour ribbon they choose…..how wrong you can be! We thought we’d share some amazing pictures of the VWs who have all been dressed in coloured ribbons to coordinate with bridesmaids or bridal bouquets!

We have a range of about 14 basic colours for ribbons that can coordinate with the season or with the bridal party! If you would like another colour as long as it can be sourced as a ‘poly ribbon’ we are happy to dress the VW in an alternative colour. We charge extra for non-standard ribbon & bow colours, usually about £10….however if you are happy to spend some extra pennies on ribbon, why not have your own personalised ribbons, with the name of bride & groom and wedding date printed on….your choice of colours, your choice of print colour.

The personalised ribbon for the ‘V’ shape across the front will cost £10, which we tend to coordinate with plain bows. Alternatively you can purchase printed handmade bows – we require a set of 4 for each wedding (although we only use 3 it is wise to have a spare!) A set of handmade bows costs £35. All extra lengths of ribbon will be sent in the post to you after your wedding.

However…..if you don’t fancy colour…..then ivory or white can look stunningly classic!

So with the sun shining thoughts turn to afternoon garden parties, and to make the perfect afternoon ‘tea’ why not include a VW campervan?

Kombi – last wishes

Yesterday we came across a little viewed clip on YouTube – “Kombi Last Wishes”

As you probably know the VW campervan has stopped production globally, and this incredibly moving clip is voiced by the last VW campervan….how she’s feeling at the end of her life- talking about her last wishes.

This is an incredibly emotional film, and we’d urge you to watch it – and if you’re a true VW enthusiast we challenge you to watch the whole clip without a tear in your eye.

The well loved and travelled VW looks back at some of the high points in her life, from when she was born in the 1940s, through to the present day. We see Frank and Iris who travelled the world in a VW, visiting 25 countries. We meet Nene, who has taken his VW cross continents to 3 different World Cups. We hear all about Miriam who was born in the back of a VW, as well as Bob who famously painted his VW for the greatest festival in history, Woodstock.

So as the VW departs, she lists her Will and leaves Frank & Iris her odometer, she leaves Nene her hubcap signed by Pele, she leave Miriam Sir Ben Pon’s original sketch of the VW concept…from when she was ‘born’. She leaves Bob the artist a painting set in the shape of a VW – and she travels the world delivering parts and VW keepsakes to people who have kept her dream alive all these years.

And finally, the VW’s final trip is to see the son of Ben Pon, who technically she regards as her brother.

And so Morris was born…….

In the summer of 2012 Pear Tree Weddings, home of vintage and classic wedding VWs, decided it was time to completely restore a VW campervan! Having refurbished and tinkered with several other VW Campervans we thought that we should design our own, luxurious, sumptuous and rather stunning wedding camper….. we wanted to create the most beautiful bespoke wedding VW in the UK.

To start with we needed a completely blank canvas to work with, and hidden in a barn on Beaver Street, San Fernando, California was a totally original 1958 split screen bus. Having been hidden in the barn for 15 years the VW wasn’t going anywhere accept on the back of a lorry, then on a ferry over to the UK……which is when we first met & fell in love with our campervan, who would be the oldest bespoke wedding camper van in the UK!

Pear Tree Weddings already had the fabulous Wilson, a 1960 two tone cream split screen campervan….. so we decided Morris should be in the same colours to co-ordinate perfectly with Wilson. However inside we designed Morris to be a little more plush – with hand crafted, rounded, Champagne unit, a beautifully hand carved Champagne glasses shelf, tiny integral spot lights as well as sumptuous upholstery.

First things first though, Morris’s panels had to be completely hand beaten to ensure they were perfectly smooth, only one panel had to be replaced – and behind that panel the restoration team found a tin of American coins, as well as a distress flare!

By spring 2013 Morris was looking stunning, we had a party to celebrate his arrival, and brides & grooms who had him booked for their weddings came along to meet him! Morris has drawn a lot of attention since, featuring in several national magazine articles! Morris’s first wedding was in April 2013, and since then he has been an incredibly busy chap. And when you do get your day with him……. have a little look at the shelf behind the driver’s seat, you’ll find those American coins have been set in to the wood!

Pear Tree Weddings loves working with other top wedding suppliers across the UK and have had great fun working with Kim at Stylish Events MK – we especially LOVE her balloon work, but there are so many services Stylish Events MK can provide…..from glamorous & glitzy to fun & funky!

Not only do Stylish Events MK create stunning balloon displays for Weddings, Parties, Hen Nights, Funerals, Baby Showers and all other celebrations they also do table centre pieces and chair covers with organza sashes, they simply love to transform venues!

The stunning balloon displays are apparently as popular as ever, people love the way balloons can make their venues look bigger and prettier – along with the chair covers you really do get a Wow factor when you walk in a dressed room. Pear Tree Weddings also loves the range of colours available….something to coordinate with absolutely every colour theme!

“We have so many different balloon displays from a Single Arch, Double arch, Twisted Column Arch, Cloud balloon displays, Link o’ Loon columns and lots more, we also have some stunning idea’s for gift or sweet buffet tables……like the fabulous photo collage, this is where the colour coordinated balloons sit on the ceiling and the photo’s hang from the balloons at Weddings – these photos can be of the couple during their relationship to show their guests of the time they have spent together! We also have tall glass vases with balloons at the top called a balloon tree, bird cages and lots of other displays to dress your venue, as venue dressers we love to make it look amazing and go that bit further to make sure everything is perfect before we leave every venue.”

What’s in a name?

……a rose by any other name may smell as sweet according to Shakespeare , BUT would a Pear Tree Wedding VW Wedding camper still be as cool if it had another name?

So we have the VW wedding campervans: Morris, Wilson, Basil, Daphne and Flossy and our gorgeous VW wedding Beetle: Wilma – some of the most fabulous names we think you’ll agree. They give each VW a character, and each name was chosen for a very specific reason – and no, not just because they’re awesome names…..but each wedding VW has its name for a reason!

Morris: Morris had lived in an old barn in San Fernando, California for 15years until he came across to join the Pear Tree Weddings VW Wedding Camper team during the 2012 Olympics…… Mrs Pear Tree was very keen to call him Mo after Mo Farrah, and Little Miss Pear Tree has her heart set on Borris, after Borris Johnson – and so the battle of the names began…..until some little 5year old bright spark piped up with “Why don’t you put the names together and call him Morris?” – thank you Master Pear Tree!

Wilson: Wilson came to the UK about the time the Tom Hanks Castaway movie came out over here– the ball in Castaway was a Wilson Sporting Goods volleyball, that became a friend to the castaway, which he simply called Wilson.

Basil: Basil is a stunning vintage green colour, he was named after the fresh green herb, and used to work alongside other VW wedding campers & Beetles called Parsley and Thyme!

Daphne: Daphne came to us in summer 2013, and we really struggled to name her – nothing seemed quite right, so we opened it up on Facebook asking people to suggest names. We had some fantastic suggestions, but some shrewd Facebooker realised her number plate started with “D A P” and suggested Daphne.

Flossy: Flossy came to us when she was called Kojak, but we just knew she was a girl, so that name just didn’t suit her. On her first family weekend out we went to a festival where the children ate pure white candy floss, and they decided the VW camper should either be called Candy or Flossy….Flossy won!

Wilma: well you all know about her as you read the blog last week!!!

…….and if you didn’t it because brides would ask “Will ma dress fit in?” (the answer is yes by the way!)
