Diary of a Morris Bride !

We’ve had an amazing response from brides to the Facebook post we featured asking for some wedding day diaries….we’ve selected a few of our favourites & will share them over the coming weeks.  First we hear from Sam:

We got married on the 5th April 2014 and hired the beautiful Morris to transport our bridesmaids, along with Mother & Father of the bride.  We had our family Beetle as our wedding car!

My advice to future brides would be to relax.  I was an absolute mess in the week leading up to the wedding, I couldn’t stop shaking and was probably not a nice person to be around!!  On the day the little things don’t matter and as soon as I got to the church my nerves disappeared – which was perfect.

I would advise you to have the day off work before hand, even if your venue is being prepared by staff, or family and friends, its worth having a day to get your head around things and focus on the wedding. 

I wish I’d prepared my favours a little earlier as they took longer than expected, but it all worked out in the end.  Above all enjoy yourself and take it all in.  We were so overwhelmed that everyone there was there to celebrate our marriage and that is so special.

Take time to be with your new husband on the day and look around the room at everyone enjoying themselves.

You’ll look and feel amazing in your Pear Tree vehicle (it’s quite a head turner!) so smile & embrace it!

ribbons & bows!

The VWs love being part of your wedding, and they adore being a central part of your photographs…..and they always dress to impress, looking their best.

So occasionally we have a bride who says it doesn’t matter what colour ribbon they choose…..how wrong you can be!  We thought we’d share some  amazing pictures of the VWs who have all been dressed in coloured ribbons to coordinate with bridesmaids or bridal bouquets!

We have a range of about 14 basic colours for ribbons that can coordinate with the season or with the bridal party!  If you would like another colour as long as it can be sourced as a ‘poly ribbon’ we are happy to dress the VW in an alternative colour.  We charge extra for non-standard ribbon & bow colours, usually about £10….however if you are happy to spend some extra pennies on ribbon, why not have your own personalised ribbons, with the name of bride & groom and wedding date printed on….your choice of colours, your choice of print colour.

The personalised ribbon for the ‘V’ shape across the front will cost £10, which we tend to coordinate with plain bows.  Alternatively you can purchase printed handmade bows – we require a set of 4 for each wedding (although we only use 3 it is wise to have a spare!)  A set of handmade bows costs £35.  All extra lengths of ribbon will be sent in the post to you after your wedding.

However…..if you don’t fancy colour…..then ivory or white can look stunningly classic!

Kombi – last wishes

Yesterday we came across a little viewed clip on YouTube – “Kombi Last Wishes”

As you probably know the VW campervan has stopped production globally, and this incredibly moving clip is voiced by the last VW campervan….how she’s feeling at the end of her life- talking about her last wishes.

This is an incredibly emotional film, and we’d urge you to watch it – and if you’re a true VW enthusiast we challenge you to watch the whole clip without a tear in your eye.

The well loved and travelled VW looks back at some of the high points in her life, from when she was born in the 1940s, through to the present day.  We see Frank and Iris who travelled the world in a VW, visiting 25 countries.  We meet Nene, who has taken his VW cross continents to 3 different World Cups.  We hear all about Miriam who was born in the back of a VW, as well as Bob who famously painted his VW for the greatest festival in history, Woodstock.

So as the VW departs, she lists her Will and leaves Frank & Iris her odometer, she leaves Nene her hubcap signed by Pele, she leave Miriam Sir Ben Pon’s original sketch of the VW concept…from when she was ‘born’.  She leaves Bob the artist a painting set in the shape of a VW – and she travels the world delivering parts and VW keepsakes to people who have kept her dream alive all these years.

And finally, the VW’s final trip is to see the son of Ben Pon, who technically she regards as her brother.

Well, as you can probably imagine, here at Pear Tree Weddings the team are a just a little excited by all things VW…… not only do we adore Campervans & Beetles for wedding hire, we LOVE other ideas for the use of VW Campervans!

Why? Well, anybody that purchases a VW Campervan to start a business saves one more bus from reaching the scrap heap – as VW Campervans are never going to roll of the production line again it’s really important that VW enthusiasts restore and maintain the gorgeous vans that still are out there.

So, recently one of our chauffeurs was flicking through a magazine and came across a new VW Campervan business, well to be more precise, a VW ‘CamperVin’ business – a VW mobile bar.  Which begs the question, does it get any better than a VW Campervan and a bar combined??  Having been tipped off about this business we got in touch with Will from The CamperVin Co and asked him to tell us a bit more about it…..

“The CamperVin is the ultimate mobile bar, we have fully refurbished and converted two Type 2 Bay Window Campers (so far) and are available for all kinds of public, private and corporate events.

We particularly enjoy being part of people’s weddings and birthdays where the bar can really add to the sense of fun at the special occasion and always puts a smile on guests faces.

We serve a range of premium beers, wines, spirits and cocktails as standard but we can always source something a bit different if required!!”
